Following the successful University of Moratuwa Entrepreneurship Day 2026, the Enterprise Unit organized a follow-up engagement session on 1st July 2026 at the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering (ENTC1) to continue building an entrepreneurial culture among University of Moratuwa undergraduates.
The session formed the next step in a series of initiatives introduced by the Enterprise Unit to encourage students to transform innovative ideas into viable products, services, and startup ventures. Building on the momentum generated during Entrepreneurship Day, the programme provided an informal platform for students to present their entrepreneurial ideas, discuss challenges, and explore opportunities for further development with the support of the Enterprise Unit.
The event emphasized that entrepreneurship extends beyond starting a business. It involves cultivating an innovative mindset, challenging conventional thinking, managing uncertainty, and identifying opportunities to create economic and societal value through novel solutions.
Students were encouraged to engage with the Enterprise Unit and share ideas that could be further developed through structured mentorship and commercialization support. The session also introduced participants to a series of upcoming entrepreneurship initiatives designed to strengthen the University’s innovation ecosystem.
As part of the next phase, the Enterprise Unit announced the launch of a curated year-long entrepreneurship programme, commencing in July 2026, in collaboration with the Chamber of Lankan Entrepreneurs (COYLE). The programme aims to support promising student innovators in developing sustainable startups through mentoring, capacity-building, and industry engagement.
In addition to the year-long programme, the annual entrepreneurship calendar will include interactive sessions with successful entrepreneurs, startup ecosystem leaders, and experienced mentors, together with close mentoring opportunities for selected students and teams with high-potential business ideas.
Through these initiatives, the Enterprise Unit continues its commitment to fostering innovation, strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem within the University of Moratuwa, and empowering students to translate their ideas into impactful ventures that contribute to the country’s economic and social development.
