University of Moratuwa and Graphenera (Pvt) Ltd Establish Framework for Collaborative Research in Advanced Graphene Technologies

The University of Moratuwa has taken another step towards strengthening industry partnerships by entering into a collaborative framework with Graphenera (Pvt) Ltd, a Sri Lankan company specializing in graphene-related materials. Facilitated by the Enterprise Unit, the partnership is expected to create new opportunities for research, innovation, and the future commercialization of advanced material technologies.

To formalize the collaboration, the two parties signed a Collaborative Research Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) together with a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) on 21st June 2026 at the Vice Chancellor’s Boardroom, University of Moratuwa.

The agreements establish a platform for the University and Graphenera (Pvt) Ltd to engage in detailed technical discussions, identify collaborative research opportunities, and exchange information in confidence while assessing projects of mutual interest. The collaboration is intended to support the development of innovative graphene-based technologies and strengthen the link between academic research and industrial application.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Vice Chancellor, who signed the agreements on behalf of the University of Moratuwa, together with the Director of the Enterprise Unit. Graphenera (Pvt) Ltd was represented by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The partnership builds upon initial discussions between the University and the company to explore how the University’s research expertise can complement industrial capabilities in the rapidly evolving field of graphene and advanced materials. The collaborative framework provides a foundation for future joint research projects and technology development, with the potential to progress towards research contracts, intellectual property generation, licensing, and other commercialization activities as opportunities emerge.

By facilitating collaborations with technology-driven industries, the Enterprise Unit continues to support the University’s mission of translating research excellence into innovative solutions that contribute to industrial advancement, economic growth, and national development.
