Enterprise Unit Department Meetups to Strengthen IP, Innovation, and Commercialisation Awareness

The Enterprise Unit of the University of Moratuwa has commenced a new series of Department Meetups aimed at strengthening awareness of the role and services of the Enterprise Unit, while fostering greater understanding of Intellectual Property (IP), innovation, entrepreneurship, and commercialization among the University community.

The first meetup was held on Friday, 4 September 2026, at the Materials Department, with the participation of the Head of the Department and staff members.

During the session, Dr. Pasqual, Director/Enterprise, provided an overview of the role of the Enterprise Unit within the University and its key activities in supporting researchers and academics. The session covered areas including IP protection, commercialization of research outcomes, industry collaboration, startup development and incubation, and other mechanisms for translating university research and innovations into practical solutions.

During the Q&A session following the presentation, Ms Amali, Manager/Enterprise, addressed several queries raised by staff members, particularly those related to the patent filing process through the Enterprise Unit and the support provided to researchers during the IP protection process.

The Department Meetup Programme will continue with other academic departments, providing an opportunity to strengthen engagement between the Enterprise Unit and the wider university community and to encourage researchers to make greater use of the support available for IP protection, innovation, entrepreneurship, incubation, and commercialisation.
