The Enterprise of the University of Moratuwa conducted an Intellectual Property (IP) and Commercialization Awareness Session for fourth-year students of the Department of Integrated Design, Faculty of Architecture, on 08 October 2026.
The session was facilitated by Dr. Wasala from the Department of Integrated Design, with Dr. Ajith Pasqual, Director – Enterprise, and Ms. Amali Hettige, Manager – Enterprise, serving as resource persons.
The session introduced students to the role and services of the Enterprise, while also creating awareness of how design-based ideas and innovations can be developed and taken towards practical application and commercialization.
A key focus of the session was the importance of problem and solution validation at the early stages of developing an idea. Students were also introduced to different IP protection options, the importance of identifying and managing IP at the appropriate stage, and pathways for commercialization and startup formation. The session also highlighted relevant opportunities and provisions available through the University to support students in developing their ideas beyond the academic setting.
The session aimed to encourage students to consider IP protection, validation, commercialization and entrepreneurship as integral parts of the innovation process, while increasing awareness of the support available through the Enterprise of the University of Moratuwa.
