The Enterprise Unit of the University of Moratuwa, in collaboration with the Staff Development Center, has commenced the first session of its Patent Drafting and Technology Commercialization Workshop Series for academic staff members.
This interactive, hands-on program is designed to equip academics with the knowledge and skills required to protect their inventions and translate research outcomes into commercial opportunities. The series runs over eight weeks, with weekly 1.5–2 hour in-person sessions.
The inaugural session was held on 14th August 2025 at the Conference Room of the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering. The workshop is jointly conducted by Dr. Ajith Pasqual (Director, Enterprise Unit) and Ms. Amali Hettige (Manager, Enterprise Unit), who serve as the resource persons.
Participation is limited to a maximum of 10 participants per cohort to ensure a practical, hands-on experience. Enrollment is based on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to staff members who have submitted or are about to submit an Invention Disclosure Form (IDF) and require guidance on drafting their patents.
Given the strong interest, the Enterprise Unit plans to continue conducting this workshop series every 3–4 months, ensuring that more academics have the opportunity to participate and receive support in protecting and commercializing their research.
