The Enterprise Unit of the University of Moratuwa facilitated the Global South–Japan Tech Talent Internship (GS-JTI) Programme, providing students with an opportunity to connect with leading Japanese companies and explore international internship opportunities in technology and engineering.
As part of the programme, a Japan Internship Day was held at the University of Moratuwa on 12 August 2026, bringing together students from the Faculties of Engineering and Information Technology and representatives of participating Japanese companies. During the event, the Japanese companies introduced their organisations, areas of expertise and available internship opportunities, giving students an opportunity to gain first-hand insights into the Japanese technology sector and interact directly with potential industry partners.
The GS-JTI Programme connects technology talent from the Global South with Japanese companies through technology-focused internships. For the 2026/27 programme, 350 internship opportunities are available, with selection based on the capabilities and suitability of individual applicants rather than university quotas.
The programme is open to Batch 23 students preparing to commence their internships and graduating Batch 21 students from Engineering and IT. Following the event, interested students were provided with access to the registration portal to proceed with their applications.
The initiative reflects the Enterprise Unit’s continued efforts to strengthen university–industry linkages, facilitate international opportunities for students and connect University of Moratuwa talent with global industry. Through the GS-JTI Programme, students can gain valuable international industry exposure, develop professional networks and experience working with Japanese companies.
