Successful Enterprise Meetup for Academic Staff – Fostering the Innovation Ecosystem at UOM

The Enterprise – Technology Transfer Office (TTO) of the University of Moratuwa successfully hosted an Enterprise Meetup for Academic Staff on June 19, 2025, at the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering. The informal yet impactful session brought together over 40 academic staff members from multiple faculties, all united by a shared passion for innovation and research commercialization.

This interactive forum provided a valuable platform for open discussion around the University’s current innovation landscape and how it can be further enhanced. Topics covered included:

  • Solving real-world problems through applied research
  • Moving research beyond publications towards societal and economic impact
  • Understanding Intellectual Property and the Role of Technology Transfer
  • Exploring academic entrepreneurship, including startup development and agile commercialization pathways

The session was well-received and energized the academic community to actively engage in shaping the University’s innovation ecosystem. A key takeaway was the importance of cross-faculty collaboration and institutional support in converting research outcomes into impactful innovations.

Based on the constructive dialogue and interest generated, the following activities are now being planned:
